Bantwal, Sep 17: It is usual to see a pile up of old furniture in the store room of schools. However, a new experiment done in Moodambail government higher primary school of the taluk has attracted the attention of every one. New furniture is made from the old and broken furniture in this school by the alumni of the school himself.
As thought by Aravinda Kudla, head teacher of the school, Ramesh Acharya, alumni of the school, worked for more than one month in the school and made podium, paper reading desk, cupboard to keep books, kitchen shelf and ‘Nali Kali’ desk from the discarded benches, desks and wood of broken doors.
Aravinda Kudla says he approached Ramesh Acharya, alumni of the school as per the Mahonnatha scheme of Wipro and asked him to realize the developmental concept for which Ramesh happily agreed.
Ramesh Acharya studied in the same school in the 1980s. In addition, all his three children have studied in the same school. Youngest daughter Nambika of Ramesh is studying in third standard in the school.
Head teacher Aravinda Kudla says that he is proud that the old benches and desks are put to good use as the school got new desks and benches for 60 students.
The experiment done at Moodambail government school is an eye opener to other schools and establishments who just discard old wooden items which can be put to good use with the help of community members.
